The Kenross Story


I want to share a story with you about Diane, I met her just about the time Covid hit March 2020.  As an 83-year old, and quite with it mentally I might add, she was living alone in a home she purchased years before to raise her family. The house that was perfect years ago was now too big to clean, too many taxes, and the upkeep was too costly on a fixed income. 

She decided it was time to move to a smaller place and yet she felt overwhelmed by all of the work she needed to do. All of the kids lived out of town and her sisters were of little help.

Diane contacted me as a result of a postcard/letter that I sent to her.

In our first meeting, I like to listen and learn the needs of those seeking to sell their home. I did convey upfront that the way for her to get the most money for her home was to hire a realtor.  She said two things about listing it with a realtor: 1) she didn’t want people parading through her house weekly, 2) she didn’t want to have to fix anything in the house to sell it. Her goal was to get the most she could without fixing it up and as soon as possible.

We both settled on a number, set a closing and moving date with plenty of time for her to get all of those valuable things boxed up and find that next place to live.  Occasionally I would check in with her to see how was she doing with boxing up things, and she confided, “It was overwhelming”.

The first thing on everyone’s mind is always is mom being taken advantage of or being treated fairly? With my reference in hand and her attorney, their minds were put at ease and decided to go ahead and sign the contract.

Children took vacation time and traveled long distance to help mom move, but no one had a truck so it was car load after car load of stuff, and a lot of the stuff was unwanted. I told Diane that she could leave the items that she no longer wanted behind.

After 2 months of moving, they got mom into a nice condo, just a few miles from her old house.

As I watched Diane move, my mind drifted back to a couple of years ago, when I helped my own mom move. She was 86 years old and we had an army of family  members to help her. Without a lot of people the challenge to move would have been a major cost and ordeal.

Your situation may not be exactly like Diane’s. If you’re thinking of transitioning into a smaller place, and maybe feel a little like Diane, overwhelmed by it all, I want to offer you some hope!

It became clear to me that there are others in similar situations as Diane and my mom, so why not provide a service to help for things like:

  • a moving company support
  • set up in a new residence
  • locating another place to live
  • other small things that need to be done to move.

What is the cost for a service like this you might ask?  To keep this simple, my goal is that there will not be any out of pocket expense to you at all. Any service you will need, big or small, will be included in the offer I will make for your house.

Another question is how can I know you are a reliable company?  

It is right to be cautious when selling a home, that is why I welcome any question from you or your family or attorney and I am happy to provide professional references about me and my work.

What is the process?

In our first phone conversation, I want to learn more about the house, and your goals to move so I can determine your level of service needed.

2nd step would be to provide you with a ball park number for your house before coming to see it. If we are in the ball park of your number, then I would visit the house to get a clearer picture of the expenses needed to upgrade it.

Once I visit the house, I will present a formal offer to you

During any time in our process if you become uncomfortable, you can stop without any financial recourse or embarrassment.
